Mz. Kela Nevels Biography
Mz. Kela Nevels journey from the streets of Metropolitan Detroit, through her perseverance and determination to overcome the debilitating effects of an automobile accident that nearly took her life, as well as her dreams of becoming a recording artist, is one of today’s truly extraordinary and inspirational success stories.
Raised in Detroit by her mother, Kela began to develop her vocal talents in the church choir at the age of ten, later moving on to local talent shows, and musical productions during her high school years. After graduation from Highland Park High School, a brief postponement of her ambitions to become a professional recording artist was made to pursue a degree at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa Alabama, but within a year Kela would fully commit herself to a career in the music industry.
After an appearance on the Jenny Jones show, Kela was recruited to be in a female quartet called Disa. After the group disbanded, Kela came to the attention of local producer mrdaroflynn who saw the potential in Kela. “I was looking for someone to represent the girl next door, someone who was natural,” says mrdaroflynn, “Kela represents that hardworking single mama who has been through it, and she is committed to making a better life for herself and her child.” After anointing her with the name Mz Kela Nevels, producer mrdaroflynn used his connections to land a record deal with Movision Entertainment distributed by Interscope Records. Mz. Kela Nevels debut single is called “Psychotic,” and will be released on February 22, 2011. Her second single is aptly titled “Single Mama” will be released in the Spring of 2011, with her forthcoming debut album “Conflicted” to be released in the Summer of 2011.
